Yellowstone and Our World
As I was zipping down the roads in Yellowstone, I was feeling, seeing, smelling, listening. It had just rained and there was a chilly mistiness in the air. A double rainbow stretched out to the left of me, shooting up from one end of the valley all the way to the other.
I opened my windows to feel the rush of the wind and breathe in the crisp air. My hands navigated the steering wheel back and forth as my car whipped around the turns. The sky began to turn warm again as the sun pulled itself out of the clouds and sagged downwards, towards the horizon. Purple shadows, now, began to throw themselves from the trees, from the dips in the mountains, from my car.
I looked to my right. My gaze reached for miles, across a river and its valley, all the way to the red sun as it flirted now with a distant mountaintop, almost touching. What a World by Louis the Child & Bob Moses bumped in my car, background noise for the last minute or so, as I sat entranced by the moment. Then, these lyrics pierced my consciousness:
What a world we’ve been born into, you’ve nothing to lose, it’s waiting on you.
Wow. Sometimes I think my shuffle is controlled by a higher being, delicately communicating to me via song lyrics. Thank you, music-loving Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Shiva or whoever you are. You and Louis the Child & Bob Moses are so right. This world we live in is wild – full of so many incredible people and places. We get to live in it! We were born (a fact pretty astounding in it of itself) and our time is borrowed. We’ve got nothing to lose. What will you choose?
